On Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, New Hope-Solebury senior Alana Davidson was recognized for signing a letter of intent to play basketball at Davidson College.
Alana Davidson – Davidson College (Basketball)
Final list of colleges: Davidson, Brown, William & Mary, Dartmouth, Delaware, Bucknell
Reasons for choosing Davidson: “When I went to visit and first got out of the car, the entire team was there greeting me. On my other visits, I hadn’t really met with the team as much, so just seeing them all there so excited to have me was just a great first impression.
“Also, they’re in a very good conference (the Atlantic 10), but I think one of the most important thing to me was just how good of academic school it is. It’s one of the top schools in the country right now, and their neuroscience program – which is what I want to study – is really respected.”
Coach Andy Krasna says: “She’s incredibly explosive as a player. She can get to the rim pretty much at will, and she’s willing to rip through defenders and create contact as opposed to shying away from contact. She has a very, very good first step. She’s the first pure player I’ve coached in three years, so she can play with her back to the basket. Now she’s learning to play facing the basket, and that’s what we’ve worked on since she’s been here. She’s a very good shooter, but because she’s 6-2, sometimes she’ll hesitate and defer to her teammates, so we’re encouraging her to look for her perimeter shot.
“Defensively, when you lose a Toni Suler, you think you’ll never get one back, but then out of the sky falls Alana Davidson. She’s as good a defender as we’ve seen, and Toni was probably the best shot blocker I’ve ever coached. She’s as good a defender as she is an offensive player. She’s very physical, and that’s something that we haven’t had.”
